So I met another doula last night. It was a great time, I'm always interested in meeting new like minded people. We were discussing other doulas and such in the area, it sounds like there are more in Indiana than I have ever been able to find. I was really disappointed to learn about the training programs down there. I really wished that I could have gone thru one of those instead of doing mine online. I looked all over when I started and couldn't find any. Oh well, it's done and I'm trained and that's all that matters:)
I keep thinking about cbe classes. I have only taught one set, but loved it. I set it aside b/c I really didn't have time to do it again at that point and time. But lately I have been thinking about it again. I really have no idea how to even set it up again, or how to recruit people for the class. I have had a lot of pregnant friends and such lately, but none of them needed it. I think maybe I should start asking for advice and see what comes of it
So I thought I'd tell you a little more about our lay doula program we're working on. My other doula friend and I are both certified, her thru DONA and I'm thru CBI and Wonderfully made. We looked thru all of our curriculum and decided to write our own, condensed version.
After we finish that we will hold small workshops to train the other volunteers. These volunteers are also the trained councelors at our center. They won't come o/ w/ a certificate that they could get hired w/. But they will get something from us saying they have gone thru our program. And they will confidantly be able to support the women who come into the center needing help.
It's something that we feel strongly about. We feel like it completes the circle and allows us to build a relationship w/ them. I think it's going to be great. We also presented to a local dr.s office that alot of our clients use and they are very supportive of us. That goes a long way for me. I wasn't sure what kind of response we would get from them.
